Summary, etc. | The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Packet Tracer Software Simulation on the student's performance in selected topic in Data Communications and Networking. The respondents in the study were one hundred twenty (120) students and thirty (30) instructors from different Computer Schools in Region III, during Academic Year 2013-2014. Specifically, the student related factors and instructor related factors along knowledge of subject matter, teaching strategies, collaboration skills, instructional methods and networking skills were investigated. Furthermore, the school related factors of the Computer Schools being given to its instructors and students was described in consideration of the variables such as availability, adequacy and usability of Ciso learning materials and equipment. The level of performance of students in application of Packet Tracer was assessed in terms of inter-active network simulation, troubleshooting of networks, configuration of networking devices and analysis of different types of networking protocols. The data were carefully tallied and subjected to appropriate statistical treatments. Frequency and percentage were used to describe the profile student related factors in terms of age, sex, civil status and year level/Cisco module attended. Weighted mean and corresponding descriptive equivalent were utilized to present the instructor-related and school-related factors. Mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum were used to reveal the performance of students in application of packet tracer software. Frequency and percentage were also employed when grades are categorized. Independent Sample T-test was also used to determine the relationship of profile variables such as age, sex, and Cisco module attended with the performance of students in application of packet tracer software. In this test, the levels of performances of students in the application of packet tracer software are compared according to the groups or categories of the profile variables. Significant T-test result suggests significant relationship between a profile variable and the level of performance of students. Pearson correlation (r) was used to determine the relationship of instructor and school related factors with the performance of students in application of packet tracer software. The lone null hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between the students, instructor, and school-related factors and the level of performance in the application of Packet Tracer Software were partially upheld. The null hypothesis that there is a significant relation between the instructor related factors and the performance of the students in application of Packet Tracer Software is not rejected. It is recommended that Cisco Networking Academy and administration should encourage students taking up Data Communications and Networking to pursue Cisco 3 and Cisco 4 in order for them to strengthen their knowledge and skills on networking, instructors should be given more updated seminar and trainings in order for them to be updated with new approach in teaching networking, school administrators should see to it that Cisco equipment and learning materials are sufficient for students use, Cisco laboratory and facilities should be provided for the proper implementation of the academy, and academy curriculum designer should work together in designing a new version of software that will be utilized by both the Cisco instructors and students. |
