520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The study sought to investigate the effects of social networking to the academic performance of the Grade 8 students at P. Roman National High School, Pilar,Bataan. Specifically, the person-related factors comprised the age, sex, monthly family income, parent's marital status and parent's highest educational attainment. And study habits. The level of academic performance of Grade 8 students in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science and Values Education were analyzed and evaluated. The social media use of students' in terms of frequency of use, and nature and purpose of use were also analyzed. The significant relationship between person-related factors and the academic performance of the Grade 8 students was tested. And the implications of the results of the study in the guidance and counselling was determined. The major tools used in gathering data pertinent of the study was set of validated teachers-made tests, the researcher conducted a survey questionnaire to the respondents. The data were tallied, organized and tabulated. The results were used as baseline for which together with the frequency, nature, purpose and kind of social media used and the academic performance of Grade 8 students were presented in tabular and textual form. The researcher sought the permission of the school administrator in the administration and retrieval of the instruments. The data obtained were recorded and tabulated. The accumulated data were presented qualitatively and quantitatively. Statistical treatment was applied to prove the hypothesis of the study as well as to give response to the problems being investigated. The data obtained were presented in tabular form and analyzed using statistical procedures that follow: frequency count, percentage and rank order distribution. The following statistical tools were used to analyze the data: Frequency and percentage was utilized to describe the person-related factors such as age, sex, monthly family income, parents' marital status, and parents' highest educational attainment. Mean and standard deviation were used to reflect the level of academic performance of Grade 8 students in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science and Values Education. Frequency and percentage were used to describe the perceptions of the students on various aspects of social networking. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) or F-Test was used to compare the academic performance of students when grouped according to their response on social networking aspects to determine significant relationship between social networking and the academic performance of students. Also, LSD test, a multiple comparison test, was used after ANOVA result shows significant differences among groups to determine where the significant differences lie. Further correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship of the various online activities and the academic performance of students. On the other hand, since statistical analyses of data were conducted using PASW statistics 18, the exact level of significance are readily available. The probability or significance levels are compared to 0.05 to determine whether or not a hypotheses is rejected or not. If the probability value (p-value) is less than or equal to 0.05, the difference or relationship is significant and therefore the null hypothesis is rejected. Since the students considered their study habits to be very good having a composite mean of 2.87, they must continue their perseverance with their study although they used the social media in their space hours. It was also good to note that the respondents have and approaching level of proficiency in English and it is recommended to continue training and learning in the four language skills; reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is alarming that the students a bigger fraction of their time in using Facebook or other social media. The researcher recommends to limit their use and have more time in their studies. The respondents' level of importance of various online activities revealed that their top priority is playing games on the internet. While there are also benefits one can get, it is still more advantageous to concentrate on their studies.
