The study aimed to determine the program implementation on the Mother-baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives among district hospitals in the Province of Bataan as perceived by the lactating mothers and hospital personnel including nurses, paramedical staff, ancillary staff, administrative staff and managers for the Fiscal Years 2015 up to 2016. The general problem of the study was to assess the level of program implementation on the mother and baby-friendly hospital initiatives among District Hospitals in Bataan as inputs for the development of self-learning modules on lactation management. The study has two sets of respondents namely: the lactating mother and hospital personnel, the respondents were taken from district hospitals in the province of Bataan such as Orani District Hospital in Orani, Bataan and Jose C. Payumo Memorial Hospital in DInalupihan, Bataan. The respondents were selected using a universal and simple random sampling to get an equal chance of being selected. The study used a quantitative-descriptive cross-sectional design. It described and interpreted what was being discover and revealed conditions that may exist or not to exist in the undertaking. The study was quantitative-descriptive and cross-sectional in nature. The study used a universal and simple random sampling to ensure that the certain population among selected district hospitals in Bataan gets an equal chance of being included as samples. The study utilized an adopted questionnaire as the research instrument to gather data for the study. The questionnaire was adopted from Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Self-Appraisal Tool 2009 (DOH, WHO, UNICEF) with some revisions. The collected data was summarized in tabular form, analyzed and treated statistically using the statistical software called Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows version 23. The one-way ANOVA and T-test were used to determine the significant difference in the program implementation on mother-baby friendly hospital initiatives when respondents were grouped according to their profile. Likewise, the exact level of significance was readily provided and results were compared with a 0.05 level of significance which was set prior to the conduct of the study. Statistical values with significance level less than or equal to 0.05 were considered significant, thus accepting the hypothesis while those greater than 0.05 were interpreted as not significant and hence would warrant the failure to reject the null hypothesis. The researcher accepted the null hypothesis and rejected the alternating hypothesis. This study recommends that the program on Mother Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiatives be implemented. Thus, enhancement should have sustained. The identified inputs toward the development of self-learning module on lactation management should be further explored. A framework should be developed to cascade extensively the matrix for the development of self-learning module on lactation management. A developed self-learning module on lactation management should be proposed. The program guideline indicators may be further revisited and enhanced which include breastfeeding, there should be a strict prohibition on promotion of breastmilk substitute as well as on posting paraphernalia of artificial breastfeeding. A post-assessment on the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives should be taken as a follow-up. A committee on lactation management should be created and empowered to monitor and control the evidences of the initiatives. As a result, it is important for health care providers to acquire breastfeeding knowledge, skills and education to fulfill their responsibility. The study clearly shows that health care providers play a significant role in protecting, supporting and promoting breastfeeding. They have close contact with families during pregnancy and the newborn period, provide an ideal opportunity to discuss the benefits of breastfeeding, and to provide support to get breastfeeding off to a successful start. |
