Summary, etc. The study aimed to explore and assess the competence of teachers teaching Filipino using Q Sort Methodology in selected public secondary high schools in the Division of Bataan, during Academic Year 2017-2018. The respondents of the study consisted of 60 Filipino teachers who are employed in the public secondary schools in Bataan. The study utilized the mixed type of research using a phenomenological research design. The Q sort method was used in sorting the concourse statements given to all the participants while MAXQDA was utilized in analyzing the large amount of text as result of interviews and focus group done by the researcher, on the other hand PQ Method was used to compute the quantitative data. Thematic categories were identified as essential to the meaning and interpretation of this phenomena being studied. The researcher finalized the name of each theme, wrote its description and illustrated it with few citations from the original text to communicate its significance to the readers. Four (4) major themes and fifteen sub-themes evolved from the data analysis based from the in-depth interviews with teachers teaching Filipino. The findings of the study revealed that most of the respondents agreed that doing and prioritizing the basic duties as a teacher is very vital as an effective and desirable Filipino teacher. Teaching students to comprehend, discovering knowledge they wanted to learn based on the prescribed curriculum up to the simplest objectives of their daily lesson are among the most important factors that the surveyed respondents valued the most; the essence of responsibility, diligence, hardwork, creativity, sense of humor, tech - savvy and good personality are the most important characteristics of a competent teacher in Filipino. The study concluded that there are many young professionals in the field of education major in Filipino who have high regards in professional growth combined with good attitude for the betterment of the students. It was recommended that continuous program for professional development should be one of the priorities in all public secondary high schools; school heads should intensify community linkages for scholarships to help teachers be enrolled in post graduate school to achieved their utmost level of professionalism; learning action cells on value driven topics should be strengthened to continue the flame of positive outlook towards work; integration of technology in teaching should be continued; recreational activities like team building and sports fest should also be amplified to boost their positive qualities as a competent Filipino teachers. It was suggested that a proposed study on the different indicators in assessing individual performance of teachers be studied as it will reveal the real perceptions, opinions and feelings of teachers on how their competence were being evaluated by their superiors.
