By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Balanga City : BPSU, 2017.Description: ix, 106 pp. ; 28 cmSubject(s): Summary: The main purpose of this study was to assist teachers, explore and develop an understanding of the importance of developing resilience among students who are encountering problems on coping amidst adversity. It also aimed to establish the perceptions of at-risk high school students on building resilience. The study made use of the descriptive research design with a qualitative approach using a multiple-case study. The researcher investigated the perceptions of resilience of young at-risk students of the six selected public high schools in the District of Dinalupihan. Findings were drawn from semi-structured interviews and five (5) themes were generated with corresponding subthemes: (1) challenges (family, school and peers); (2) coping (being knowledgeable, being positive, lifestyle change, support system and healthy spiritual life); (3) health (personal esteem and lifestyle, mental, emotional and spiritual); (4) connection (companionship, esteem, information, and instrumental); and (5) aspirations (finish school; help the parents; have a business, have a good job). Key findings suggest that programs, projects and interventions should be provided to at-risk students in order to ensure the provision of protective factors like academic support to achieve resilient behavior and healthy development. In sum, the qualitative findings on the depiction of risk, protection and resilience as viewed by the respondents provide relevant information not often conveyed in quantitative investigations. Recommendations were also provided.
