Patient safety culture vis a vis organizational safety climate of the Pampanga Medical Specialist Hospital : toward an enhanced management plan on patient safety [manuscript] / Marilyn Bartolo Dabu.

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Balanga City : BPSU, 2017.Description: 160 leaves ; 28 cmSubject(s): Summary: The researcher used a quantitative - descriptive-correlational in nature. The general problem of the study explored the patient safety culture of the Pampanga Medical Specialist Hospital Vis a Vis to their Organizational Safety Climate. Findings from this study served as enhanced management plan on patient safety. It was revealed that the patient safety culture is evident to both groups whether hospital personnel and patient-respondents with a mean value of 2.95 and standard deviation of .288 and 3.01 with standard deviation of .203. This implies that their patient safety culture in all indicators of the study are evident. It was shown that the organizational safety climate of the Pampanga Medical Specialist Hospital are evident with the indicators of the construct with a mean value of 3.09 and standard deviation of .320 as perceived by public hospitals and 3.30 mean value with standard deviation of .353 from private hospitals. However, patients perceived that personnel frequently disregard rules and guidelines of the hospital. This table above presents the regression analysis results on the organizational safety climate of the Pampanga Medical Specialist Hospital as determined by the indicators of the patient safety culture in terms of supervisor / manager expectations and actions, organizational learning, teamwork within units, communication openness, feedback and communication about error, non-punitive response to error, staffing, hospital management support, teamwork across hospital units; and hospital handoffs and transitions. The results revealed that all indicator of patient safety culture are considered as determinants of the organizational safety climate except supervisor / manager expectations and actions on promoting safety, communication openness, and staffing when its significance value is lesser than 0.05 level of significance, supervisor/manager expectations and actions on promoting safety is (t=1.20;p>.231), organizational learning on continuous improvement is (t=5.54;p<.000), teamwork within hospital units is (t=1.86;p<.060), communication openness is (t=2.03;p<.043), feedback and communication about the error is (t=.891;p<.000), non-punitive response to error is (t=4.81;p<.000), staff is (t=4.21;p<.000), hospital management support for patient safety is (t=3.05;p<.001), teamwork across hospital units is (t=.347;p>.573). This table provides the R and R2 values. The R value represents the simple correlation and the patient safety culture is (r=.738;p<.000) which indicates a high degree of correlation. The R2 value indicates how much of the total variation in the dependent variable, can be explained by the independent variable. In this case, 99.5 percent can be explained, which is better. Likewise, this table indicates also that the regression model predicts the school culture practices significantly well with a value of patient safety culture (F=87.233;p<.000). This indicates the statistical significance of the regression model that was run. Here, p < 0.000, which is less than 0.05, and indicates that, overall, the regression model statistically significantly predicts the school innovativeness as it is a good fit for the data.Meanwhile, Coefficients table provides the necessary information to predict which among variables of patient safety culture, as well as determine whether it contributes statistically significantly to the model considering the significance value of the t-value presented. Management plan has been proposed.
