By: Material type: TextTextSeries: Publication details: Balanga City : BPSU, 2020.Description: ix, 149 pp. ; 28 cmSubject(s): Summary: The birth of the K-12 curriculum in the Philippines gave rise to the academic track of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. One of the subjects offered by the track is chemistry, a subject which is very useful in our daily lives. However, since the curriculum is still in its early years, it is interesting to note how SHS chemistry teachers do their daily routines. For this, a focused ethnography was conducted to study and describe the patterns and the culture among this group of people. The participants were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. The study was able to discern that the culture of SHS chemistry teachers could be described using five categories. The culture of being hired revealed the diverse backgrounds leading to the acceptance of the teachers in the profession. The culture of coexistence revealed the ways on how strengths and weaknesses were handled by the SHS teachers in order to better themselves. The culture of assimilation revealed that the teachers were determining issues within the workplace. The culture of teaching revealed that the SHS teachers were engaged in teaching the subject matter. Preparations were made, methods were determined and assessments were conducted in order to ascertain that educational goals were achieved. Recommendations were provided that may address some issues determined by the study.
